Steam Mill Information Chester

thimbl. is brought to you from Steam Mill, a beautiful Grade II listed building in Chester, Cheshire. Steeped in a rich tapestry of history, the mill perches on the banks of the Shropshire Union Canal.

For the history buffs

Steam Mill was one of the first of its kind. The mill was originally built for Chester Corn and Flour Merchants in 1786.

Forst & Sons took over the ownership of the mill in 1819, and are responsible for replacing the steam engine. The current structure of Steam Mill dates back to 1864.

In 1938, seed merchant David Miln became the registered owner, and the mill remained in use until 1986.

Steam Mill today

The Steam Mill is now owned by Threadneedle Pensions Ltd and managed by joint agents Legat Owen and Mason Owen. While modernisations were introduced during the refurbishment carried out by James Brotherhood and Associates, Steam Mill has retained many of its original features, and exposed wooden beams and brickwork can be found throughout.

In addition to its authentic allure, the mill now boasts a stunning five-floor atrium, decked out by various offices and businesses (we’re on the second floor – hello!). There’s also a secure bike store, shower facilities, onsite car parking, a manned reception area, and a plethora of private meeting rooms (where we can usually be found brainstorming ways to make our customer journey even better).
