Will I be accepted for a credit card?

To be eligible to apply for a thimbl. credit card, you must be over 18 years-old and live in the UK. However, whether your application is accepted will depend on your individual circumstances and factors such as your credit score, current income and expenditure commitments.

Before submitting your application, you can check your eligibility using the thimbl. ExpressCheck service to understand whether you are likely to be accepted for a credit card. This service is free to use, has no impact on your credit score and only takes 60 seconds.

Provided the information you submit is accurate, the result of the eligibility check should indicate how likely your application is to be accepted – should you decide to proceed with one.

What is a soft search?

A soft search is a way for lenders to check your creditworthiness without the need of a full credit check, also known as a hard credit check.

A soft search does not affect your credit score and using this technology we are able to give you an idea of your chances of getting approved for a loan or credit card before making a full application.

Do I need a good credit score?

The thimbl. credit card was designed for those who are looking to rebuild their credit score. So, if your score is less than perfect, there is still a chance you could be accepted.

However, your chances of acceptance will also depend on factors such as your monthly income compared to your outgoings, any other outstanding credit arrangements and your history of borrowing in the past.

Our ExpressCheck eligibility checker service should allow you to gain a good understanding of your likelihood of being accepted prior to making an application.

What is a Representative APR?

When a representative APR is displayed, this means that 51% of applicants will receive this rate or lower. It gives you an idea of the overall cost of the credit including interest and any additional fees.

Representative APR is often used to compare different credit products and their costs.

What credit limit can I get?

With a thimbl. credit card, you could be approved for a starting limit of up to £1,200. Depending on how you manage your account, you may become eligible to receive a credit limit increase of up to £5,000 over time.

Can I withdraw money from an ATM using the thimbl. card?

Yes, you will be able to withdraw money from an ATM using a thimbl. card. However, please be aware that making a cash withdrawal on any credit card will incur substantial fees which usually depend on the amount withdrawn.

Often, this is around 2-3% of the amount in addition to the interest incurred as usual, which can be quite expensive. You should always use a debit card to make a cash withdrawal.

I am a student, can I get a credit card?

If you are a student in full-time education, you are unlikely to be eligible for a credit card unless you have a regular source of income which could be used to make the monthly repayments.

You can use our eligibility checker to see if you could be eligible to get a thimbl card. Whether you will be eligible or not will depend on your individual circumstances and factors such as your credit score, current income and expenditure.

I am on benefits, can I get a credit card?

You may still be able to get a credit card if you are in receipt of benefits. However, if you aren’t in regular employment, lenders will consider you a higher risk borrower.

You can use our eligibility checker to see if you could be eligible to get a thimbl card. Whether you will be eligible or not will depend on your individual circumstances and factors such as your credit score, current income and expenditure.

I am unemployed, can I get a credit card?

If you are unemployed, it is unlikely that you will be approved for a credit card. Most lenders will not consider applications where the applicant does not have a source of regular income to make the loan repayments.
