Why choose thimbl for your credit builder credit card?

The thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card has been designed for people who are aiming to build or improve their credit score.

The thimbl credit card comes with a manageable starting credit limit to help with responsible spending. You should only ever spend what you need to and can afford to repay. When making your monthly repayments, you should try to pay more than the minimum amount due, if it’s possible for you to do so. Clearing your balance in full and on time each month will mean that you won’t be charged any interest.

Your repayment habits will be fed back to the credit reference agencies (CRAs) and, over time, providing you have also positively managed any other current credit commitments or bills, you could notice an increase in your credit score.

As of January 2025, thimbl has said yes to over 150,000 customers – and counting!

What’s the starting credit limit on a thimbl credit card?

The thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card comes with a starting credit limit between £200 and £2,000. The credit limit you could be offered will depend on your credit score; income; how you’ve managed any current or past credit commitments; and the results of the lender’s affordability checks.

Who can apply for a thimbl credit card?

You can check your eligibility for a thimbl credit card if you:

  • Are over the age of 18 and under the age of 70;
  • Are a UK resident with at least 1 year’s UK address history;
  • Are employed with a minimum monthly income of £800 after deductions;
  • Have an active credit account; and
  • Do not already hold a Zable credit card.

*Please be aware that if you choose to make a full application for a thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card, our partner Lendable will be required to carry out an affordability check, which will include a hard search. A hard search will remain visible on your credit file for up to 12 months, and multiple hard searches within a short space of time could have a negative impact on your credit score.

Any credit that is obtained as a result of an application will be provided by Lendable Ltd.

Frequently asked
questions

If you've got a question, you may just find the answer you're looking for here. If not, please visit our contact us page and get in touch.

What will my credit limit be?

If you are accepted for a thimbl credit card, you could be offered a starting credit limit of up to £2,000. If you use your card responsibly and show that you can manage your repayments on time each month, you may be eligible for a credit limit increase over time, up to a maximum of £4,000.

You will always be made aware of any credit limit changes to any credit cards you have beforehand, and you do not have to accept a credit limit increase if you don't feel it's right for you.

What happens if I fail to make my repayments?

Falling behind on or failing to make your monthly repayments could result in additional charges, such as late payment fees.

Missed payments will be reported to the credit bureaus, and your account will appear as in arrears. You will be charged a late fee, which is usually around £12. Your credit rating is also likely to decline as a result.

You should try to make your missed payments as soon as possible.

If you're struggling to keep on top of your repayments, you can find free, impartial advice from MoneyHelper, StepChange, Citizens Advice and National Debtline
